When something at work doesn’t feel right, you deserve to know where you stand. I help optical professionals understand their rights and act on them.

The bigger picture
Most people don’t think about employment rights until something feels off.
It might be a change in your contract, a disagreement with management, unclear expectations, or a situation that just doesn’t sit right. You’re left wondering whether it’s normal, whether it’s fair, or whether you should be doing something about it.
The difficulty is, without clear guidance, it’s easy to second guess yourself or avoid dealing with it altogether.
That’s where I come in.
Where to start
If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth understanding why before you decide what to do next.
You don’t need to have all the answers. Just explain the situation.

What I do
My role within the Federation is to give you clarity and confidence when it comes to your working situation.
I help you understand what your rights are, what your options look like, and how to handle situations in a way that protects both your position and your peace of mind.
This isn’t about turning everything into a legal issue. In many cases, the right approach is a calm, well-informed conversation. The key is knowing where you stand before you take that step.
Where it would help, I can also point you towards the right professional bodies — the AOP, the GOC, and the College of Optometrists — so you know exactly where to turn for formal guidance or representation.
The experience
When you access this support, you’ll start to feel more certain about your situation.
You’ll understand what your contract really means, what is considered reasonable in the workplace, and what isn’t. You’ll be able to recognise when something is a misunderstanding and when it needs to be addressed more seriously.
For many people, just having that clarity removes a huge amount of stress. You stop guessing and start making decisions based on facts.
If something doesn’t feel right at work, write it down clearly.
What happened, when it happened, and why it concerns you. This helps you step back from emotion and look at the situation more objectively before deciding what to do next.
If any of these apply, it’s worth getting clear on your position.
A practice manager was unsure about changes to their role and responsibilities. Once we reviewed the contract and expectations properly, the situation became much clearer and easier to address.
An optical assistant felt something wasn’t right but didn’t want to cause conflict. With the right approach, they were able to raise it calmly and resolve the situation without escalation.
A quick insight
Most workplace issues aren’t dealt with early, which is why they often become bigger than they need to be.
How I work
I’m calm, balanced, and focused on helping you make the right decision for your situation.
If something is genuinely not right, I’ll help you understand that and guide you on what to do next. If it’s something that can be resolved more simply, I’ll help you approach it in a way that keeps things constructive.
The aim is always to protect you, without creating unnecessary tension.
Before you go
Workplace situations can feel uncomfortable, especially when you’re not sure what’s right or wrong.
A lot of people stay quiet or hope things will resolve themselves. Sometimes they do, often they don’t.
When you understand your position properly, you make better decisions and handle situations with far more confidence.
