A permanent, part-time Optical Assistant position is available in Cricklade, offering up to £19,700 pro rata per annum (equivalent to £28,000 FTE) for candidates who want to support local clients with exceptional service. This is one of the top Optical Assistant jobs currently available in the region, working a rotating fortnightly schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday in week one, and Monday through Wednesday in week two, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
What you'll be doing
- Greet customers warmly in person and over the phone, serving as the first point of contact for everyone visiting the practice
- Listen to client needs and take ownership of queries, working closely with the practice manager, optometrists, audiologists, and dispensing opticians
- Dispense single vision lenses, varifocals, contact lenses, and perform spectacle adjustments
- Assist customers in selecting suitable frames, lenses, and optical products
- Schedule appointments, manage bookings, and handle administrative tasks including processing payments and orders
- Maintain product displays and keep the practice tidy and presentable
What we're looking for
- Previous experience working within a busy opticians or optical retail environment
- Proven ability to dispense single vision lenses, multi-focal lenses, and contact lenses
- Excellent customer service, communication, and active listening skills
- Strong IT skills alongside a keen interest in eye care and eyewear
- Strong attention to detail, organisational abilities, and the capacity to work well both independently and in a team
