We are looking for a dedicated candidate to step into Dispensing Optician jobs in Thatcham, combining hands-on practice experience with structured study towards full General Optical Council registration. What you'll be doing
- Perform all dispensing requirements in line with supervisor instructions, including prescription analysis, advising on lens types, styling frames, and taking measurements
- Carry out repairs, adjustments, and fittings according to supervisory instruction
- Check new jobs into the branch, process invoices, and manage credit notes, as well as chasing outstanding orders and keeping customers informed of delivery delays
- Provide administrative back-up for the branch team, including cashing up, processing vouchers, and ordering contact lenses
- Maintain accurate branch stock records, process deliveries, and perform regular stocktaking duties
- Promote products and services, maximising sales opportunities for sunglasses and accessories
- Complete required study materials, process coursework, and attend college as directed by ABDO
- Act as a keyholder and operate within professional guidelines, legal requirements, and G.O.C. regulations
What we're looking for
- 5 GCSEs at Grades 4–9 (A–C) including English, Mathematics, and Science, OR 5 years of optical experience with A–C grades in Maths and English
- Keen interest in ophthalmic dispensing and a desire to deliver exemplary patient service
- Confident team player with excellent communication skills, empathy, and patience
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to customer care
- Ability to commit 10–15 hours per week of your own time for distance learning coursework, spanning 32 assignment units per academic year
- Ability to attend two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent
- Ability to undertake full-time training while completing the programme
