We are currently supporting candidates who want to secure full-time Dispensing Optician jobs in Marlow, offering the chance to gain a professional G.O.C. qualification while developing hands-on expertise in clinical practice and patient care across the South East. This structured position combines practical branch experience with academic study to help you qualify as a registered dispensing optician while delivering exceptional service to patients.
What you'll be doing
- Perform all dispensing requirements in line with supervisor instructions, including prescription analysis, lens advice, frame styling, and accurate facial measurements
- Carry out repairs, adjustments, and fittings while adhering to professional guidelines and G.O.C. regulations
- Manage branch administration, such as processing invoices, checking in new orders, and tracking updates
- Support the team with cashing up, processing vouchers, managing contact lens orders, and computer stock entry
- Promote products and services, maximising opportunities to recommend sunglasses and accessories
- Assist with stocktaking preparation, accurate recording, and stock ordering using standard procedures
- Complete distance learning study materials, process marked coursework, and attend college as directed by ABDO
What we're looking for
To be successful in this position, you will need a strong passion for ophthalmic dispensing and the dedication required to balance full-time work with academic study.
- 5 GCSEs at Grades 4–9 (A–C) including English, Mathematics, and Science OR 5 years optical experience with A–C in Maths and English
- A keen interest in ophthalmic dispensing and a desire to deliver exemplary patient service
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrating patience, empathy, and commercial awareness
- Ability to commit 10–15 hours per week of your own time for distance learning coursework (32 assignment units per academic year)
- Ability to attend two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent, including residential training where required
- Flexibility to work late finishes, Saturday working, and occasional practice meetings or stocktaking outside normal hours
