We are currently recruiting a full-time Dispensing Optician for our practice in Fleet, offering a supportive environment and the chance to train towards full professional qualification in the South East. This role is designed for someone eager to build a long-term career in ophthalmic care while earning and learning.
What you'll be doing
- Perform all dispensing requirements in line with supervisor instructions, including prescription analysis, lens recommendations, frame styling, and accurate facial measurements
- Carry out repairs, adjustments, and fittings, and check new orders into the branch upon arrival
- Process invoices, credit notes, and chase outstanding orders while keeping customers informed of any delays
- Provide general administrative back-up to the practice team, including cashing up, processing vouchers, and managing contact lens orders
- Enter incoming stock onto the computer system, maintain accurate records, and assist with regular stocktaking duties
- Promote products and services proactively, maximising opportunities to sell sunglasses and optical accessories
- Act as a keyholder and assist colleagues across the practice as directed
What we're looking for
- 5 GCSEs at Grades 4–9 (A–C) including English, Mathematics, and Science, OR 5 years of optical experience with A–C in Maths and English
- A genuine interest in ophthalmic dispensing and a commitment to completing the GOC-registered blended learning programme via ABDO College
- Ability to commit to 10–15 hours per week of your own time for distance learning coursework and attend two block release periods per year
- Excellent communication skills with high levels of empathy, patience, and dedication to exemplary patient service
- Commercial awareness and confidence working collaboratively within a busy team environment
