We are currently recruiting for an Optical Assistant job in Barnstaple, offering permanent, full-time hours on the High Street alongside a comprehensive staff discount on eye care and eyewear.
This busy practice in the heart of town is looking for a customer-focused team member to join them.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering exceptional customer service to every patient who walks through the door
- Guiding patients through frame selection, styling advice, and lens options
- Dispensing single vision, bifocal, and varifocal lenses under appropriate guidance
- Undertaking pre-screening duties, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field tests where required
- Adjusting, repairing, and fitting spectacles to ensure a comfortable and accurate fit for the customer
- Managing appointment bookings, answering telephone enquiries, and handling general reception duties
- Maintaining high standards of presentation across the practice display areas
What we're looking for
- Previous experience in a customer-facing retail or healthcare environment is an advantage, though full training is provided
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a warm, welcoming manner
- Good attention to detail and basic numerical proficiency
- A flexible approach to working a variety of shift patterns throughout the week
- Availability to work weekend shifts as part of your regular rota
- Must be over 18 years of age due to operational requirements
