About this role
In an optical practice environment similar to McLaren & McKechnie (Stirling), a Qualified Dispensing Optician (QDO) plays a central role in the patient journey. Core responsibilities would involve expertly interpreting ophthalmic prescriptions and advising patients on suitable frame and lens options. Taking precise measurements, such as pupillary distance and optical centre heights, is critical for successful dispensing.
The role includes fitting and adjusting spectacles to ensure optimal comfort and vision, and managing more complex dispensing requirements. Where applicable, involvement in contact lens aftercare may also be a feature. The QDO collaborates closely with optometrists and the wider practice team, contributing to a seamless and comprehensive patient experience from eye examination through to dispensing and aftercare.
