About this role
At Alvaston Opticians, we are seeking a dedicated Optometrist to join our established practice in Derby. You will be responsible for delivering comprehensive eye examinations, accurately diagnosing a range of ocular conditions, and prescribing appropriate corrective lenses.
Key clinical duties include:
- Performing thorough sight tests.
- Identifying and managing common eye diseases.
- Making timely referrals to ophthalmology when necessary.
This role is integral to our practice team, working collaboratively to provide exceptional patient care. You will serve a diverse patient demographic within the Derby area, ensuring everyone receives a personalised and professional service.

Requirements
To excel as an Optometrist at Alvaston Opticians, GOC registration is essential. You will require a BSc (Hons) Optometry or MOptom degree, successfully completed alongside a recognised pre-registration year.
We expect a strong command of core clinical skills, including comprehensive sight testing, contact lens fitting, fundus examination, and the ability to effectively interpret OCT scans. Strong patient communication and attention to detail are paramount.
Furthermore, the capacity for multidisciplinary teamwork is vital. While not mandatory, independent prescribing qualification, glaucoma accreditation, or WOPEC certification would be highly advantageous. We are committed to fostering professional development.
